Safety and effectiveness of first line eflornithine for Trypanosoma brucei gambiense sleeping sickness in Sudan: cohort study

Eflornithine is the only alternative to melarsoprol currently registered for the treatment of second-stage human African trypanosomiasis. A study in the Sudan shows it to have acceptable safety and effectiveness as a first-line treatment.
