08 Sept 2011 Postdoctoral Training Programme at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana, LegonLegon, Ghana with funding support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has instituted a Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme, to train future research leaders who will contribute to infectious diseases control efforts. The program seeks to train young African scientists towards building a critical mass for control of poverty-related diseases, equip them to compete effectively for international funding for research work in Africa, offer them international exposure, and facilitate their networking and collaboration with other institutions. 12 Apr 2011 Call for Proposals for Junior Fellowships
The European Foundations Initiative for African Research into Neglected Tropical Diseases (EFINTD) is a response from five European Foundations – Cariplo, Gulbenkian, Merieux, Nuffield and Volkswagen – to tackling the ill health and impoverishment caused by a group of 17 infectious diseases. The EFINTD Fellowship Programme aims to build up a cadre of African researchers in the field, strengthening African research institutions in the process. The Ecohealth programme supports applied research and research capacity building activities in developing regions. Uptake and use of research findings are a priority. Ecohealth will now focus on three main areas: ecohealth research organizations in developing regions; projects on how environmental and socioeconomic changes affect emerging and re-emerging diseases; and research on the links between health improvements and better agricultural practices. The purpose of this Fellowship Program is to support infectious disease physicians and scientists from developing and middle income countries through multidisciplinary clinical and laboratory training at select biomedical institutions in Switzerland. The Western Pacific Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), invites applications for the Joint Small Grants Programme for Operational Research in Communicable Diseases. The programme is co-funded by the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office and TDR. Objectives of the Small Grants Programme are: To facilitate and strengthen control-oriented operational research in selected communicable diseases; and To strengthen the research capacity of key individuals and institutions in countries of the Western Pacific Region. In line with the above objectives, WPRO currently prioritizes research proposals which: Focus on operational research issues addressing programmatic gaps. 06 July 2010 Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network (APMEN) Research Grant Program
The programme aims to assist in the development of new tools and measures to eliminate malaria in the Asia Pacific Region. In this inaugural founding round, grants will focus on the malaria parasite Plasmodium vivax. Proposals for short-term operational research or a scientific evaluation of an existing programme can be submitted from individuals or organisations from the ten APMEN countries: Bhutan, China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Republic of Korea, the Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, and Vanuatu. The African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation (ANDI), African institutions are invited to apply for recognition as a Centre of Excellence, with the opportunity to become future ANDI centres for health innovation and further capacity development in Africa.
